Monday, May 26: For nearly five months, I’ve been out on the road every week with the Perfect Weight America Tour. If you think about it, a lot has happened since I started the tour in San Diego on January 1, most notably with the gas prices. Back in December 2007, national retail fuel prices were $3.06 a gallon. Now we’re well north of four bucks a gallon—and diesel fuel has punched through the $5 a gallon ceiling! With the cost of gas soaring through the roof, have I noticed less people coming to my health seminars?
I would say the impact has been negligible so far, but we’re keeping an eye on it. To be honest, we’ve been happy with the crowds coming out to hear me speak. We seem to average around 150 or 200 persons, and that hits our sweet spot. That amount of people is about the most you can effectively fit in a health food store anyway, so we’re liking our numbers.
Speaking of driving, yesterday my wife, Nicki, our son Joshua, and I took a family drive to Lion Country Safari, which is located just west of West Palm Beach in Loxahatchee. When Lion Country Safari opened more than 40 years ago, it was the first “drive-through” safari park in the United States and introduced the concept of the “cageless zoo.” There were something like 1,000 animals in the preserve, including lions, white rhinos, zebras, chimps, African elephants, and a giraffe. We had a blast driving through and pointing out the various animals to Joshua, except for our up-close-and-personal-encounter with an ostrich that tried to eat our windshield wipers. We also got up close to a rhinoceros who had a runny nose, as Joshua loved pointing out.
We hung out around the house on Memorial Day, which seemed appropriate on a day when our nation pays tribute to our fallen heroes.
