I got home in Florida at 1:15 a.m. early this morning after being in Oklahoma City since Tuesday afternoon. I spoke at Victory Christian Church over the weekend, where we had 300 come on Friday night and over 250 on Saturday—definitely a good group. Finally, here’s a city that is at least talking about reaching its perfect weight, which is why I saw my job as inspiring as many OKC residents as I could to do something about the battle of the bulge.
It looks like I’m getting some help. In case you haven’t read my earlier blogs, Oklahoma City mayor Mick Cornett received a splash of national publicity after he issued a “Million Pound Challenge” during the first week of January, challenging local residents to shed 1 million pounds during 2008. There are different ways to do the math, but that means around 100,000 people in this city of 1 million would have to lose 10 pounds each to get there. Of course, I think I have a great way to help people lose weight, and my plan is outlined in my new book, Perfect Weight America. My fear is that Oklahoma City residents will be just like millions of other Americans who think that the best way to lose weight is to consume low-fat foods or go on a low-carb diet, à la Atkins or South Beach.
But like I said, at least OKC residents who came to Victory Christian over the weekend heard a different story on how to reach their perfect weight. I know they’re inspired because there’s been a ton of publicity following the Mayor Cornett’s “Million Pound Challenge.” In fact, yesterday morning producers with the hit NBC show, “The Biggest Loser,” held auditions at the Bricktown Brewery in downtown Oklahoma City. Hundreds of overweight hopefuls began lining up at 6 a.m. for a chance to get chosen for the show.
I found it interesting that the “Biggest Loser” producers are doing their own “million pound” weight-loss challenge. Called the “Biggest Loser Million Pound Match-Up,” the show is challenging viewers to lose 1 million pounds over the course of the show’s season. At the auditions Saturday morning, those trying out were asked for their ages and current weight as well as how much weight they hoped to lose. Some told the local media that they were tired of breaking chairs that they sat down in, or they wanted to be able to fit into seats at amusement park rides.
If you or a family member tried out for the “Biggest Loser” but didn’t get picked, all I can say in my best game show voice is, “Come on down!” I’m confident that the Perfect Weight America Eating Plan, with its emphasis on whole, organic foods high in fiber and lower in carbohydrates, will help you lose weight—and help Oklahoma City rise to the challenge of losing 1 million pounds in 2008. Just go to www.PerfectWeightAmerica.com to get started. |

Hi Jordan! I'm sure you haven't heard this in a while, but I want to lose weight. Pick me! Pick me!!<br>It's actually more than just a little flab on my hips, but an occupation. You see, I'm getting my Master of Public Health at University of Texas and I'd like to have my lifestyle reflect the research that I'm currently doing on nutrition and immunity. I'm nearly done with your book PWA and I've also started The Maker's Diet for Women. (Like any good student, I haven't finished). I'm really excited about your program, but I have one somewhat huge problem: dairy. I've tried organic, raw, processed, you name it and it makes me sick. Lactose and I are just not friends and I've been this way since I was a baby: my mom didn't breastfeed :(<br>Do you have any suggestions/replacements other than just soy? Specifically replacements in your menu plans? Everything sounds so delicious, but I don't want to regret eating it a little while later.<br><br>I really like what you're doing, thanks for caring about America!!<br><br>-Christina Socias, 23, Houston, TX

I don't watch much television, but I have seen the "Biggest Loser" a couple of times. It's too emotional for me to watch. Most television is like that, at least for me. So, all I really watch is a little Christian television and some of the news. I'm really enjoying reading "Perfect Weight." Jordan, you speak of the way you were raised, with healthy foods. For those of us who weren't raised that way, I wanted to say that maybe that should be stressed in your speaking engagements, that those who weren't raised to eat that way are going to have to undergo a rather dramatic conversion in the way they eat. We ate white bread only. My mother had colon cancer twice, and also breast cancer. Some things we see as "hereditary" have to do with our habits (from the way we were raised). I started on "whole grains" long ago, after studying about the effects of some foods on our bodies. I began to understand that part of the moodswings I suffered (diagnosis of bipolar) had to do with my unhealthy eating, especially sugar. Thank God for healing me from bipolar 25 years ago. Part of my healing was a total revolution in the foods I ate. I think of the old adage, "You are what you eat." Ann Doupont, author of "God Can Heal Anything!"

Jordan, I could hardly wait to share this with you. I had my hair trimmed today by the girl who has been doing my hair for some time now, and she asked if I'd used a conditioner on it. I told her "no," but that I've been eating 5 or more fruits and vegetables a day and taking FucoTHINS , which has pomegranite oil in it. She said that whatever goes into a person's body goes straight through their hair. Hey, you might want to promote that, too. I'm sure there are lots of ladies who'd love to have a "natural" hair conditioner such as this. I've noticed that since starting FucoTHINS a week ago, my skin is oilier and softer. Of course, it was also at that time that I made it a point to eat more fruit and vegetables. I also put a drop of glycerin in the palm of my hand to mix with my face lotion in the morning to help with dry skin. It works.

I am on day 3 and I feel great. I have lots of energy and love the recipes. My kids even like them especially the onion pepper and goat cheese omlet. Almond butter is delicious with celery or carrots. I have made it a point to drink 1/2 gallon of water a day and try to do the stress reduction exerices. I had a bad night at work but found I functioned better in crisis and didn't fell so stressed. I did cheat when I got home but ate flaxseed crackers avocado carrots and almond butter. I didn't crave sweets which sometimes follow a bad night. Thanks Jordan for a good plan with God's foods......Linda p. detroit...ps when will you come to detroit???? I could get you a spot at our church????<br>
