I got home in Florida at 1:15 a.m. early this morning after being in Oklahoma City since Tuesday afternoon. I spoke at Victory Christian Church over the weekend, where we had 300 come on Friday night and over 250 on Saturday—definitely a good group. Finally, here’s a city that is at least talking about reaching its perfect weight, which is why I saw my job as inspiring as many OKC residents as I could to do something about the battle of the bulge.

Can anyone turn the heat on? I’ve been in freezing Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, since Tuesday with a jam-packed schedule. I heard that Texas governor Rick Perry proclaimed next week “Severe Weather Awareness Week” in Texas, but that proclamation could be extended to the Sooner State as well. I’ve seen a bit of everything the last four days: snow flurries, sun, clouds, and rain.

Yesterday, I talked about how cold and flu sufferers are discovering homeopathic remedies such as echinacea and zinc lozenges because they either find over-the-counter cold and flu drugs ineffective or they are wary of side effects like drowsiness.
If there was ever a health condition that had the most home remedies, it would definitely be colds and flu. Some of the ones I’ve heard about include gargling salt water, drinking grapefruit juice by the quart, submitting to acupuncture, and employing horsetail (the herb) inhalations.

‘Tis the cold and flu season. I know this is true because I fly back and forth to my home in Palm Beach Gardens every week, and this time of year, I just pray that I won’t be sitting next to someone sneezing up a storm between takeoff and touchdown.
Every now and then on a flight, I’ll see a passenger drop a dollar-sized tablet into a plastic cup of water and watch it fizz. It’s not Alka-Seltzer—although I wouldn’t blame some people for taking an antacid after eating an oxymoronic “airline meal”—but a tablet of Airborne.

Another week is winding up here in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where we adopted two more families for our Perfect Weight Makeover initiative. In case you haven’t read my postings from January 23 and February 8 where I talked about the other families we’ve adopted, we wanted to do something tangible to help others in the communities that we would be visiting this year. By “tangible,” I mean that when we choose a family seeking a Perfect Weight Makeover, we offer them personal as well as financial assistance to help them reach their perfect weight and turn their health around. Like ABC’s reality television series, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the Perfect Weight version changes the way a family lives in a dramatic fashion.

I was all set to speak at a couple of assemblies at Metro Christian Academy this week when news swept the campus that an 11th-grade student had died in a tragic car accident. Suddenly, there were more important things for the administration to deal with. Lauren Crawley, 16, died on Monday, February 11, and Metro Christian Headmaster Tom Cameron told the Tulsa World that Lauren was “devoted to her church doing missions work.”

I’m still in Tulsa, Oklahoma, separated by 1,134 miles on this Valentine’s Day from the love of my life, my wife, Nicki, who’s back home in Palm Beach Gardens with the kids. Since we knew I’d be out of town on Valentine’s Day, we went out to dinner on Monday night as an early V-Day celebration.

Last Friday, while I was tooling along Interstate 25 in the Perfect Weight America tour bus from Denver to Colorado Springs, I did a phone interview with Nora Froeschle, a reporter for the Tulsa World newspaper. She had been assigned to write a story about me coming to Metro Christian Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma, this week to present the Perfect Weight America plan to staff, students, and parents.

I’ve been in Colorado since Tuesday night, and today I’m in Colorado Springs with the PWA team and my family. This is the first time that Nicki and the kids have joined me on the Perfect Weight America Tour, meaning the tour bus and the film crew and the hectic schedule. They’ve had fun tooling around the Front Range in the tour bus. Yesterday, on the 90-minute drive from Denver to Colorado Springs, Nicki and the kids took a nap as the 48-foot Featherlite bus motored south on Interstate 25. We have a series of stacked beds—kind of like what submariners must sleep in—where you can “rack out” and get some much-needed rest.
