Hi!  I'm on this journey of Perfect Weight America after having done some of Jordan's other programs.  I'd love to start a group here where we can all check in and encourage each other along the way.  So if you're interested in a group for accountability, encouragement, motivation, and hopefully a lot of fun along the way, join me here!

Great!  Welcome Misty and Sylvia!  Hope you have had a great day!  I sure have though it's been EXTREMELY busy for me!  I had a field trip with my five-year old's class (but was able to take my own lunch so ate healthy!) then just tons of stuff to do today it seems.  I haven't gotten in my workout yet today as I usually do in the morning but am going to try to before bed.  I'm also a little frustrated over the fact that I didn't get in as much water as I usually do.  But being out and about all day made it a little more difficult.

So, how long have you been doing PWA?  What are your goals?  I'd love to hear!  How was your eating today?  I think that's the toughest for me!  I LOVE to eat!  Usually getting in my exercise isn't a problem for me but eating right is always a struggle - but getting better as I go!  It's going to get a little tough next week as we'll be traveling!  But I've succeeded on the road before and can once again!

Hope you have a great night!  Talk to you later!

Sylvia, you said you're starting October 20th.  Have you ever done anything like this before?  Just curious if you're a "newbie" or a "veteran".  Are you taking the supplements?  What kind of exercise are you planning on using?

Wow!  I have a lot of questions, don't I?  Anyway, just want to help us keep each other on track!

Hi there!

Well I started mid September with a cleanse so I have been doing this for about a month. My husband decided to get on board so I am actually going to start phase 1 over and we will be doing it together. I don't think it will be a problem starting over. I think in the long run my husband and I will both benefit. I am actually pretty proud of him. Anyways, I have enjoyed trying some new foods. I have never eaten avocado until PWA and at first I didn't like it but now I do. My hubby and I joined our city rec center and I have been going every other day early in the morning to work out. Do you know is it better to alternate days of aerobic and weights or is it ok to do a little of both on the same day and if so which is better to do first? It feels odd to just go in and lift weights and that's it.

Can't wait to hear back.

Hi, Misty!  I think I had read on another thread that you were starting over with your husband in Phase 1.  That's so cool that he's going to do this with you.

Ok, on the exercise, there's a lot of different "schools of thought' on this so I'm just going to tell you what I've been taught and let you take what you want.  If you are doing light weights with higher reps, it's ok to do it daily.  Cardio can be done daily.  But generally, if you are working to build muscle, then you should rotate weights/resistance work on one day, then cardio the next day, then back to resistance and so on.  If you are trying to lose weight, then add in at least some cardio daily, six days a week.  It's absolutely important that  you take at least one day a week completely off from working out so that your body has time to recover.  Hope that this helps some.

according to my PWA calendar I should be doing the cleanse right now, BUT I'm doing so much traveling right now that I'm holding off on that.  I want to do it in November instead.  I don't think that will mess things up too bad.  I just finished my workout for the day and now am heading to the shower.  I added a carb to my breakfast this morning (I know!  BAD!) but I was so tired I really needed the extra energy - it was a healthy carb at least!  Lunch will be "interesting" as I have to go to a luncheon at a retirement community center today.  It will be HARD to resist the desserts!  But I've been resisting all week and have had to be at 3 luncheons plus a dinner banquet!

Ok, gotta get going so will talk to you later!  Have a great day!

By the way, I LOVE avacado!!! Try making your own guacamole - mash the avacado and add a little fresh salsa or tomatoe and peppers, some cilantro, and a little lime juice. Soooo good! Then you can add that to a nice salad. Oooh, now I gotta go buy an avacado!

Hello! How's the weekend going? Weekends are hardest for me to stay on track! I'm doing good. We're on the road right now on our way to Raleigh. Gotta love modern technology! What a difference from traveling while I was a kid! I can check email, talk on the phone, and surf the web while my kids watch DVDs in the back! We're so spoiled these days!
Have a great Saturday!

Susan--

Great Idea, starting a sort-of support group here. I know I could use encouragement as well. I do really well with the eating, for the most part, my issue is staying motivated on exercise. I am slowly getting better at it.
Going to Raleigh??? I live 25 miles north, and my office is in Raleigh (I'm a massage therapist) Are you local??

Linda, welcome!  Yes, I was just in Raleigh.  We had a meeting there but are now on the road heading to Williamsburg.   So what phase are you in now with PWA?

Sylvia, you're supposed to start today, right?  How's it going so far?  Let me know if you have any questions, concerns or just need to vent a frustration!  We're here to support and encourage!

Misty, how's it going?  How is hubby enjoying PWA now?

I'm in Phase 2 now but my meal plans are messed up cuz I'm supposed to be doing the clenase but am postponing that till I'm not traveling.  It's HARD to follow the PWA meals while traveling!!!!  Ok, will check in later!

Thanks for the exercise tips. Do you know if you should drink protein drinks after you exercise? I have been hearing this and I don't remember PWA saying anything about it. I should look in the book again. What I've heard is that your muscles need to replenish what they lost during the workout. Just wanted everyone's thoughts on the topic.

Well, I just finished my salad for lunch and I must say the more I eat salad the more I like them. I am going to start to make my own salad dressing. It seems pretty easy and much healthier and I am sure it will save me some money in the long run. Have any of you tried making your own dressing?

My husband has been doing a great job being more aware of what he is eating. I am so proud of him. He is cheating a little too much but he is the type that he needs to take baby steps in the right direction when it comes to eating. He loves his food. It is not easy for me either but I am learning so much everyday. I want my kids to be healthy eaters and when they chose eating a vegetable over a dessert, that makes me feel like I am doing a good job.

Good morning! I'm in Williamsburg, VA this morning and having a great day so far!

Misty, on the protein thing, here's what I've alway heard, BUT I don't know Jordan's thoughts on this so I can't assure you this is "PWA friendly" advice. I've always been told you should have a small snack after your workout (within 20 minutes) that is 3 parts carbs to 1 part protein to replenish the breaking down of muscles and all during a workout. AND you should not eat before your workout - at leas 2-3 hours before. That's why working out first thing in the morning on an empty stomach is usually a good idea (that's what I usually do!) Then around an hour or so after working out and your post workout snack, you should have a meal that is mostly protein.

I have come to love salads too! I especially love spinach salad! I do make my own salad dressing - I have been for years! Here's a couple of ideas:
I don't really measure anything but sorta guess so you may have to kind of experiment with proportions here. I take around 1/4 cup of olive oil plus about 1/3 cup of red wine vinegar (or apple cider but I prefer the red wine), add a large clove of garlic, then about 1 Tblsp. of Greek seasoning. Put in the blender and puree till smooth. It's my family's favorite! If you want a creamy version you can add a little of plain organic yogurt (I like the Greek yogurt best). You can substitue other seasonings for the Greek seasoning such as fresh ginger or Italian seasoning or whatever your preferences. Another way I like my salad: about 2 cups of fresh baby spinach, add some feta or goat cheese, some olives, top with some plain Greek yogurt (kinda tastes like sour cream), and some salsa. I love it!! And so healthy! and if you want you can add some grilled chicken or other meat to make it a complete meal.

I am in Phase I...I've cheated a little, but not too much. I have found that now, if I don't eat a big salad every day, I notice it the next morning. I've always been one to wake up and have a bowl movement, and twice now, when I did not eat salad the day before, it was almost 3 hours after waking before my first BM. fascinating. I'm a big salad lover to begin with, so it isn't a stretch for me. I have a rule...7 vegetable minimum in my typical salads (usually letttuce, red onion, red cabbage, cuke, celery, shredded carrot, red bell pepper) The more color, the better.

I am partial to Bragg's Sesame Ginger dressing, although I also make dressing similar to what Susan posted above.

you speak of spinach salad. I love baby spinach leaves with kalamata olives, thinly sliced red onion, cherry tomatoes, and feta cheese. I find that this doesn't even need dressing if you toss it all together.

My biggest struggle is exercising daily. any helpful hints?

Hi, Linda! I think we chatted some about exercise on another thread before, right? Getting into the habit of consistent exercise can be a challenge - BUT definitely possible, just as getting into the habit of eating right. First, have a plan! If you don't plan for it, it won't happen! Look over your usual daily schedule and see when it will fit into your day. Many say first thing in the morning is the best time to exercise and I agree, but really the best time to exercise is when it works for YOU. For myself personally, if I don't exercise in the morning, it ain't gonna happen, most days. So I have a routine - I get up at the same time every morning, spend some time in my devotions with the Lord, get my kids up and ready for school, fed and out the door, then it's my time to exercise. I know others who prefer to workout at night after the rest of the family has gone to bed, anothers in the afternoon. Every person and their schedule is different so figure out what will work for you. Then, decide on what you will do. Do you have Jordan's FIT DVD? Or another workout DVD? Do you prefer to go to the gym? If you need suggestions on what kind of exercise to do, let me know. If you are interested in exercise DVDs that incorporate much of the FIT exercises you can go to my website - milliondollarbody.com/SueAnnK and click on the "Shop for products" link and you can read about the workout programs available through there. I really recommend the Slim in 6 program and the Power 90 program for those new to exercise and really looking to lose weight. If you prefer something a little more "dancy" then you might like something like Turbo Jam or Hip Hop Abs. I have used both Slim in 6 and Power 90 and lost much weight with both. They incorporate much of the same moves that are in Jordan's FIT exercises. If you click on the "Play the Game" link it will direct you to a page where you can sign up for free membership to their message boards and will be assigned a coach for free (if you go through my page then you will automatically be assigned to me!). By being a member you can also use WOWY which is a"virtual" gym where you can organize your daily workout schedule and are eligible to win prizes and cash just by signing in each time to you exercise! By clicking on the "Join the Club" link you will be directed to the page for their club membership that will include customized meal plans, training tips and more for a small fee.
I hope that I have helped at least a little with ideas for exercise! Check in here often for support! The more, the merrier! We can change our lives for the better together!

Hi, Koba! You found us! So tell us a little about yourself! I read that you live in South Africa! That is so awesome! I'd love to hear about it!

Good morning, everyone! I'm in Waterbury, CT this AM and having a great day so far! We are in a conference here in Waterbury so will be here until Monday! Eating right is HARD to do when others are providing all your meals! Last night was ok though as they had baked chicken and lots of steamed veggies and a beautiful green salad. I skipped dessert - that's one of the hardest things when they provide all these wonderful desserts at all the meals! Breakfast this AM could be difficult as they told me they were having pancakes and bacon! I have some Greek yogurt and apples here in our room, maybe I'll fill up on that first. And can you believe that I bought a whole case of PWA bars and a whole case of Perfect Food bars for this trip for emergenicies and then left them sitting in my kitchen in SC!!!! I was so irritated at myself! I need to find a Vitamin Shoppe or something near here that sells them so I can get some more. (I also need to find a laundrymat and a post office!)

I usually exercise around this time but some things came up so I'm going to save that for later in the morning today.

Ok, I'm an idiot with technology so can any of you tell me how to add you guys as my Success Buddies? I haven't figured that one out yet!

I was reading in Proverbs this morning and read, "put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite." Hee, hee - a good reminder for when I'm tempted to eat something I shouldn't!

Hope you all are having a great day!
