Dear Fellow Members,

This is my first time posting and hopefully its in the correct spot.  I know that depression can take many forms and depths in ones life.  Right now I have found myself seeing my husband deteriorate himself with a sever bout of depression.  I was hoping someone here would be able to give me some ideas and a natural herb or spice that would help cut the edge on the stress.  I have used Cava Cava, but I am unable to locate anyone who carries it anymore.  Maybe even a supplement if possible.  My husband has refused to go see someone, because he is being too proud.  Right now prayer and the knowing that God is here with us is what I am going on right now.  Any help would be great.

I have read that fish oil is great for depression, I am sure you can find alot of info on the web regarding this and depression. Proud is typical of men, being the caretaker of the family, the strongest etc..however I have seen men do irreversable damage to their hearts and lives because of being to proud, thus making them "cripples" unable to even take care of themselves. A proud man is a smart man, ready to do what it takes to be the role model for the family and continue as the strong one,,sometimes depression is a chemical imbalance that only medication can correct,,,sometimes it takes time to find the right medication for each individual person, frustrating but worth it in the long run...Maybe telling him it is not his fault this is occuring, life is stressful and if an imbalance is also present,,almost impossible...Good luck, take the fish oil for yourself as well..s

Dear Gail,

I am sorry to hear about your husband.  I have also had some serious bouts of depression and not wanting to go on any medication but take the natural route as well. I have recently found a combo that I am taking that I am noticing good results.  I am taking SAMe 400mgs a day in the morning and L-theanine one with each meal except for supper time and I am taking two.  I take GABA when I have alot of anxiety or a panic attack.  These three have really helped me along with a good whole food multi three times a day and some calcium and magnesium.  The SAMe is rather pricey but I found it for half the price in Swansons catalog.
