I am trying Kefir for the first time because of the cleanse. Does anyone know if it is supposed to smell like spoiled milk? I am going to try and drink it anyway but I have a bad habit of smelling everything I eat or drink. So if the spoiled smell is normal I will just have to suck it up.

Thanks

Fay.

Hi Fay. I bought Kefir and it smelled like aromatic, stronger yogurt, not spoiled milk--I didn't think it was that sour and I am very sensitive to smells. I really liked it, though, especially as a breakfast shake with fruit. What did you decide?

Hi Fran,

I did try because of the cleanse. But as I don't like  yogurt (probably the smell) so I doubt that I will be drinking kefir by itself. I have yet to try it in a smoothie so that is my next goal hopefully I will like it better that way.

Fay.

I don't think kefir should smell spoiled.  Did you check the expiration date?  I'm a weirdo kefir-lover.  It grows on you.  (I think literally!)   I like the little sweet creamy tang of kefir and yogurt.  It tastes spunky and alive to me.  But I know everyone has different tastes.  Good luck!

I just bought some today. Mine was sour and terrible, too...the worst. I really WANTED to like it, too! Very chunky and rotten-tasting. Eeeww. I think I will just stick to eating yogurt.

hey kefir friends! ha ha

I bought some unsweetened plain kefir at Sprouts the other day and ohhhh myyyyyyyy was it DISGUISTING! its a bummer because of how good it is for you....I almost gagged trying to drink it. Mine definitely was sour tasting and it was way before the expiration date... darn.

I tried the strawberry or raspberry yogurt and thought it was ok. I liked mixing with a smoothie. It didn't smell bad and was like a thicker yogurt.

Can I find this kefir product in any store, or do I have to go to an organic store.

Can I eat yogurt instead of kefir, and if I can,  what kind?

I think you can eat yogurt instead of keifer however after reading up on keifer it has more health benefits. I usually switch it up. I never ate keifer or even heard of it until this program. The first time I had it I thought it was ok. Now I really like it. I do buy both a plain and flavored and will mix it together. This program recommends only the plain since it has less sugar but I just can't do it so I mix the 2 to cut down on the sugar. I buy organic stoneyfield yogurt and lifeway keifer. I also buy Dannon vanilla since it doesn't have any high fructose corn syrup or big words I can't say. It all depends on how much I want to spend that week but Stoneyfield is my all time favorite hands down and it has more beneficial enzymes in it.

Hello, my name is Janice. I am not new to healthy eating, but I am new to this site. I have been drinking Kefir for over 2 years, since I was diagnosed with acid reflux. I do not need any medication, the Kefir works wonders. It can be sweetened, I buy plain and use a small amount of  natural sweetener. This plan suggests honey so try stirring in a spoonful, it much better.
