Am I the only one that can't make it through even one set of the Squat/Super Lunge series. I watched all the FIT videos today (6) and decided I'd start with the first series. I did my 20 squats, then 20 seconds of light jogging, then started on the 20 lunges. And died at 10. (super painful, started shaking). So, I went back to jogging for 30 seconds, then tried to finish the last 10 (just barely made it through). Then tried to move to the "running step", and couldn't even get to 20. My legs just quit on me.  I barely made it to my chair (four steps away). Then when I tried to get up 15 minutes later to grab a drink of water, I couldn't even walk.

Is this just me? That's like scary, I'm so out of shape. (40 - 50 lbs to lose, but 3 yrs of bedrest in the last 7 years). Any advice? I obviously can't do more tonight, but should I just keep working and stop when I have to until I can finally finish a set, then work myself through a second set, etc. Or should I have pushed myself despite the pain and shaking to try to finish the set. I was rather scared of doing permanent damage (plus with four little kids- 18 months - 7 yrs, I can't really put myself into the "not able to walk" zone for the next day.

Any tips/help? And yes, I was guzzling water all day, and just before and after I exercised.

I would say start smaller and work your way up to it. It is not healthy to force your body to do what it clearly is not ready to do. I think you did the right thing jogging where you couldn't lunge - good thinking! I have asthma and have been out of shape myself and I pretty much do what you did when I need the break. The whole point is to get your heart rate up to burn the fat and get the cardio, so if you have to jog in place to keep your rate up then you should do that. Don't try to over-do, you will be in a world of pain later. Also keep up the good work with the water!

I am curious about Curves.  Does anyone out there go to Curves?  It really seems like it is a place where you can get the exercise that Jordan Rubin writes about in his book.

Curves can be a fun place to work out. It does cost money. If you have fibromyalgia it can be very painful.I didn't work for me but if you can use machines(have no injuries) it looks likefun. For awhile

Between the cost of some of the ingredients and supplements I would not go to curves, we have a budget here that won't accomodate that too. Dana thanks for the heads up about the fibro and curves, I definitely won't go there then. How long did it take you to get diagnosed? That was the most frustrating part for me. One doc said I had endometriosis one said I had fibro............ummmmmmm how about both people??? I would not wish all that testing on anyone. I find that if I stay active, I don't hurt as much in my trouble spots. When they finally diagnosed me, I had pain in all but TWO of the marker points they identify it with. Now, I only have about two that act up regularly, for which I am greatful!

Hi Mindi,

Keep at it, it will get easier.  It's just something new.

I would like to view the 6 videos today.  I can't seem to find them on the PWA Website.

Please let me know where to find them.

Thank you.

Hi Susan,

I'll have to say the FI T exercises are very effective if you know what I mean?  If you just click on "home" page after you have logged in they are still there. How are you doing? The forum is really silent these days. Everyone must really be busy. I haven't even heard anything from my diet buddies even though I have emailed them. Hope everyone is ok.

Gotta get busy myself,

Have a wonderful day,

Peggy

I read recently - that instead of the long reccomended cardio exercise 30 minutes 3xweek that you see in so many diet plans - that after the age of 40 we need 1 hour per day to maintain our weight without gaining. (average person) Is this true and is this why I have gained 10 pounds every decade since my 20's??? I am now trying to do 1 hr. of programs on the treadmill every other day with weight lifting between those days. It was hard at first but is getting easier.
