I'm new to the site, so maybe I just haven't come across this info yet, but what is the recommended amount of exercise for the program? Is one workout supposed to be one of the functional fit video routines (i.e. rebounding), or are multiple routines supposed to be put together in a day? And how many days a week is ideal?
Thanks in advance! |

Hi Jennifer, Just as to little, too much can be bad. I do exercise daily with both cardio and weight bearing but adjust 2 3 days a week to more or less weight bearing and also do a yoga sometime or pilates instead of weights I use my body as resistance. But you need to be sure you doing enough weight bearing exercises to build the muscle but never over strain yourself because you will just fall backwards to square one. What is your routine like?? |

| Jennifer I do the same thing as Lori. Cardio and weight bearing some days, yoga and tai chi others. I like to use the physio ball and the resistance bands too, in amongst the cardio, along with weights. Sometimes I use the weights during the cardio too, not just as free weight exercising. Once the weather gets better and the snow gone, I will start walking again too. Whatever you do, don't overdo because you will fall backwards. |

I would think 15 minutes a day to move all the functions of the body to exercise. I do in a wheelchair. |

| Hi, I do 30mins weights, just enough to make me feel it. I read that smaller weights with more reps, for weight loss. Larger weights with less reps for muscle building. I do this Mon, Wed, Fri. Then I do yoga the rest of the week. I do 'Yoga for the rest of us' by Peggy Cappy. It's great for beginers and uses a chair to aid balance. When it gets warmer I might walk on alternate days as well. |

I think you are all on the right track. I like to mix things up for variety. I would have loved to take a walk today, but I am not supposed to be doing anything for six to eight weeks. My doctor knows how frustrated I find that, but if I don't take it easy, my recovery will be affected. I saw her last week for my pre-op appointment and we came up with a few things I could do with resistance bands and hand weights. My big thing to avoid like that plague since the surgery is any core muscle work, which is where I need it the most. I am going to do more meditating and in a couple weeks, I can start short walks. I got my husband to work on my back today :-) Since I came home from the hospital, my back has been sore, and it helped a lot! Keep up the great work everyone! |

Robin not being nosey but what type of surgery did you have? Meditation is great and I if I could suggest some breathing exercises which I know helps the muscles and I would safely say would not compromise the surgery you have had. Its always important to keep the blood circulating in a manner that it also helps heal. Best In Health! |

| I feel that you should strive for 3 to 4 sessions per week. With a day of rest in between so that muscles, joints et al, can recover. In a "good" session you should feel spent afterwards. The next day, the "rest" day, it doesn't mean veg on the couch. Just do something active but at your leisure, ie; take a easy walk for twenty minutes, it'll help you repair the micro-tears in the muscles created the day before and remove the lactic acid build-up. A big bonus, working out won't seem like a daily chore, but don't let 3 days go by without working out, it will turn into 3 months really fast. |
