I don't know if you ever have those days where all you want to do is eat. For some reason, I never felt full today and I just wanted to keep eating. I had to stay away from the kitchen when I was home. Luckily I was at work most of the day and then at swimming lessons but when I was home it was hard to not think about food. I just got over my period so I was thinking that may have something to do with it. It has been in the 20's here but I probally have about 3 feet of snow in my yard. I have a black lab and the snow is over her belly when she walks. Imagine what it is like in the snow drifts! In 2 months we should start to see some nicer weather but I hope it doesn't seem like a long 2 months. I've already been thinking about what I want to plant in my garden this year. We were using some of things that we canned this past year and it got us thinking. Have a great day being healthy. Take care. |

This is CRAZY!!... Wed, Jan 6, 2010
Too hard to make friends here, and the measurements here a RIDICULOUS! Yogurt with berries .5cup blueberries, .5cup strawberries, 1.5cup yogurt, 1Tbsp honey EAT .75. REALLY, REALLY come one why not make the recipe with ONLY THE .75 serving?! Now I have to try and fiqure out these whole crazy measurements what is .75 of all this? AAAAHHHHH!

The measurements are quite confusing, I have to agree. The serving should say to eat .75 cup (3/4 cup). Unfortunately we have to somewhat go with what makes sense when we look at a portion size as the measurements the way they are read can be very unsettling. What does it mean to eat 2???? Well, eating 2 portions probably isn't really what we are supposed to do, so depending on the recipe it may be 2 cups or 2 pieces or some such. You'll have to use logic to figure some of them out! I know it took me some time. I was using a program so I wouldn't have to think but the truth is, I needed to learn correct portions as that was one piece of the puzzle out in the 'real world' for me! I needed to learn how to figure a portion and then learn to discipline myself. God tells us to take control of all we do, and that means in what and how much we eat as well. It isn't easy obviously, but it has to be done. My husband likes to put it to me by comparing the way I eat to others issues. An alcoholic has to control themselves by not drinking, a drug user by not using, a sex addict by avoiding temptations including movies, magazines, and adult stores. So it's really no different for me. My sin bent is eating unhealthy and too much and that is one of the harder things for me to do. But it's my cross to bear and compared to the one Jesus took on, I think it's not too much to ask! God Bless! |

I just started with the cleansing diet and I totally agree about the portions. I started Monday at 161 lbs and Tuesday I was at 160.6 and today I am at 159.2. It is alot of work cooking for yourself and I have to cook the night before because I work and take four meals with me. Also I am already out of soup. I am cooking some more right now. If the numbers on the scale didnt show what I need to see, I would not be doing this. I still need to get to at least 140 lbs, so I have my work cut out for me. I am hoping that by time I reach that goal, I will be used to the extra work. I also started walking during my lunch time instead of going out to lunch. I even got 1 person at work that is going to start walking with me on thursday. I am looking forward to it. |

Hi, everyone! Happy New Year! Hope everyone is having a great 2010 so far! Misty, on "really cold" days here it gets down in the 70s. I know that's just what you want to hear with your 11 degree weather, lol. Chelle, ouch! Hope your tooth ache is getting better. Busy Momma, sorry you are having trouble with the measurements. As for making friends, stick around our thread here. We'd love to get to know you! Welcome, Delia! Congrats on the weight loss so far. The cleanse is tough so good for you for doing so well. Glad to have you join us. Doing great here. I had another ultrasound this week and the dr. says it's a girl! I'm excited as that's what I was wanting. She said she will do a repeat ultrasound to confirm in about 4 weeks but is pretty sure it's a girl. I'm so glad to finally be in the "homestretch" of this pregnancy. It's been a tough one compared to my others. I'm 30 weeks now and am sure hoping the baby comes a couple of weeks early as I'm afraid this one is going to be huge like my 3rd. Then again, my 4th was 2 weeks late and was very small. But I really don't want this one to be late! I'm so sick of being pregnant. Ok, since it seems we're all ladies posting here, I want to ask some advice. I am "considering" tubal ligation but just don't know. I was always against it but now that I'm on my 5th child, I'm reconsidering, LOL. I've done the birth control route and never again - it messed me up so bad. So between pregnancies we have used natural family planning but just don't want to be stressed with that the rest of my life till menopause. Now that we're having our last, we're looking into other options. What are your thoughts on this and if any of you know downsides to it or side effects, I'd like to hear them. Well, heading off to cook dinner. Have much to do this evening and no energy. Ick. Talk to you all later. |

Busy Momma- Your post made me laugh but you are so right about the portion sizes. When I started I hated having some of the things I made as left overs but then on some occasions it was nice. I haven't really used the meal planner in some time now but I do like the recipes. Delia- I did the cleanse last year this time with Susan. It is hard to do and you will have to make soup a couple of times throughout the 10 days. I also did the cleanse with my husband so I may have had to make more soup than most. Susan- Good to hear from you. Gosh I couldn't imagine 70 degrees as your low temp. Right now we have a weather warning for the next 2 days. The snow just won't stop and the temp is in the 20's. Schools most likely will be closed tomorrow. I am happy to hear that you are having a little girl. You are so blessed. I had to google tubal ligation because I had never heard of it but now that I know it is basically getting your tubes tied I am on the same page. I know 4 people who have had this procedure done. So far 3 of the 4 haven't had more kids and 1 did get pregnant but her baby turned out just fine. Other than that, I am not real knowledgeable in this area. I think that if you feel in your heart that having it done is the right thing to do than go for it. Just pray and ask God for guidance. I was never on the pill because I just didn't want to go that route. When I was first married we used condoms and that didn't feel right for us. So currently I am using natural family planning but it does have it's ups and downs. I only have 2 kids thus far and it is working for us. Sometimes I wish I would have an oops but right now is not a good time with my husband being out of work. I am worried about NFP once I hit the age just before menopause because I depend too much on my temperature and your temp goes haywire at that time and I don't want to be 50 years old and pregnant. |

Delia, welcome and congratulations on the weight loss! Keep going. It will get easier and when the cleanse is done you will feel so much better you will find every moment of cooking and measuring worth it! I have an at-home spouse that does all my cooking so never had to go through that part of the stress. I admit, I have been spoiled and don't know how I may have done without him! Susan, congratulations on the baby girl! Very exciting! I have not had tubal ligation, I had a partial hysterectomy as my pregnancy with Elizabeth did a toll on my body and I went into hemmorage mode. Then last year they had to take my right ovary. So, I haven't had to worry about any type of birth control for some time now. I do have one girlfriend that had a baby the same age as my girl and two year later got pregnant with twins! She had enough so had the tubal ligation and it's been very good for her. Other women I know that have had it (about 6 or 7 and all Christians) have all had great success with no side effects. It's all dependent on how your body works and what method your doctor thinks is best for you. As for the 'Christian' side of it all, I don't think it is wrong to have procedures done to prevent future pregnancies. I know some Chirstians that consider it just as wrong as abortion but I do not agree in the least! I truly feel it is not against God's will. My GA Motto this year (in case I haven't mentioned it dozens of time already!) is Fit For God's Kingdom. I love that and have taken it as my diet motto. The four things that I teach the kids to become Fit For God's Kingdom are Spititually Fit, Socially Fit, Physically Fit, and Mentally Fit. These also work for me when I am working on weight reduction, health improvement, physical improvement. They have good ideas in our little leader manual and I like to apply some of this to my everyday work at becoming.....yep.....Fit For God's Kingdom. Take it day by day and don't get discouraged! God Bless! |

Hi! Thanks for the words on tubal ligation. I have no idea what we'll do. One day I'm all for it, the next totally against it, LOL. Doing ok here, just counting down the days till this little one comes. I am soooo ready to get back to normal! And I'm missing regular workouts so much. Today I sat on the bed and watched my hubby do his Kenpo X workout and was missing being able to do it too so much. It's strange, but I miss being able to do jumping jacks. The ship brought some nice produce recently so I've been able to have some beautiful salads lately. I got green leaf lettuce, carrots, broccali, red and green bell peppers, and snow peas. The snow peas looked a little rough but going to try to salvage them anyway. Roasting a big chicken for lunch tomorrow which usually gives us plenty of meat leftover to cook with the first couple of days of hte week so looking forward to some nice stir fry and stuff like that. My mom is thinking about coming to the island to help when I have hte baby. I wasn't expecting that at all (she's not the type to drop everything and go help with a new baby), but certainly could use her help here. Most of my hubby's sisters have moved to the States in the last year and his mom is leaving this month too, so I don't really have anyone. We've been trying to figure out what to do with the kids when I go into labor. I'm picturing us having to take all 4 kids with us to the hospital in the middle of the night or something, LOL. Could be interesting. Well, am going to get going now. Trying to get some bills paid online and then need to get off the computer and get some housework done. Had planned on a craft project with the kids today but it just didn't happen. Maybe this evening. Will talk to you all later. |

Susan- before you know it, that baby girl will be here and when you hold her in your arms it will make everything well worth it. Plus once you are holding her that means that your body is all yours!!! Just take it easy before jumping into an exercise routine but I am sure you already know that. Today I did my legs and back routine as well as my abs. I felt pretty good but I think I may have over done it because I can already tell that I will be sore tomorrow. We went to my sister n laws birthday party this evening. I didn't have any cake but I had a few too many appetizers. They were pretty tasty though so now I am kicking myself because I did a great workout and then didn't behave like I should have. However I also stayed away from all the cookies and sweets so that is a plus. I haven't really used the recipes from the meal planner here in some time but after Busy Momma's post about serving sizes it made me realize that I had totally forgotten about them. I am thinking about taking some time tomorrow to go through them and pick a few out for the week. I remember some of them were pretty good. Chelle- I like your motto. It seems to fit my thinking as well. Thank you for sharing that. Well I am off to bed. I need to get my butt in bed earlier because lately I have been staying up too late. Enjoy your day. |

Hi everyone! Shew, I have been out of touch, but keeping up with your posts via my email.
I am now 24 weeks along and we found out last month we are having a little girl! :) We have 2 boys, so this is going to be exciting.
Susan- I am so excited for you, it's so close now! That's awesome that your mom offered to help, hopefully it will all work out and she'll be there to keep the other kids when you go into labor. :)
Misty- I also have used herbamare for a while now and like it alot. I think the organic, whole ingredients they use to make up the seasoning and the fact that there are no preservatives, like msg in it too. I am thinking it is somewhat lower sodium also but not absolutely sure. I bought it for a recipe from one of Jordan's books and ended up using it in alot of things.
And regarding the birth control issue....I'm in the same boat. We use NFP method too and I do not want to use hormonal methods, yet we do not want another baby, unless it's several years down the road. I've heard tubal ligations have gotten better but I just worry about my hormones period since I have a thyroid disorder messing with them already. We also thought about vasectomy but that seems so permanent...what if we change our minds a few years from now. Pregnancy is so tough on me physically that I can't imagine wanting to have another...but somehow we forget all of that once the baby is born.

Heather- Great to hear from you and I am so happy for you and the baby. I hope the last 17 weeks or so are a breeze. I have a quick question and you don't have to answer it. Since we brought up birth control again, those of you using NFP, have you been successful or have you had a wonderful surprise. So far my husband and I haven't had any surprises or shall I say an oops but we have only been using it for 1 1/2 years. Are those that do use it questioning it because of a surprise? I am only asking because I always wonder. My husband and I are overly careful but I do worry later in life when my temperatures may not be as accurate- like in menapause. I rely too much on my temp. We are actually going to be doing a talk on it at a nearby church in March. My husband has an interview on Tues with a great company so please keep him in your prayers. Other than that we are doing well. I made a healthy chocolate pudding today. It was wonderful. It had avocado, agave or maple syrup, cocoa powder and vanilla in it. Just delish! |

Hi, my name is Lee. I started the Perfect Cleanse from Jordans book on Saturday. I had a couple questions...Did any of you get headaches? I had a terrible headache all day yesterday, day 2, that would not go away for anything. Just wanted to make sure that is normal. Today, day 3, it is gone and I have my energy back but just wanted to be sure. Also, is it normal to lose weight really fast on the cleanse? I lost 3.4 pounds day one and 3.6 pounds day 2. I don't want it to be so fast it all just comes back on. I have been sticking to the schedule like glue, eating 1 1/2- 1 3/4 c soup (that is all that fits in my bowl), taking my multivitamin, fucothin, Perfect Cleanse, had a HUGE salad last night......just don't want this to be, "lose fast and then gain it all back." I have done that too many times to mention. I may be I am lossing because my body is just too heavy (started at 204 pounds) and filled with too many toxins (though i have only had one small bowel moverment so far) Sorry I have so many questions, I just sooooo badly need to get healthy for me, for my children and want to make sure I am doing this right. |

Lee- Welcome! Yes I did get a headache the first few days. I think it has something to do with the toxins leaving your body. I lost probally 6 or 8 pounds I think during the cleanse but I did gain some back once I started eating again. However I then filling my body with good healthy food so in the long run I lost more weight and was healthier. In regards to bowel movements, I had maybe one a day during the first few days and I can't remember the last few days. But I do remember them being smaller than normal and well they just came out differently. If you want details I will tell you but I think you will be fine. You may lose more weight than me since I didn't have too much to lose so I wouldn't worry about that. Just follow the plan. You most likely will have to make another pot of soup soon so keep those ingredients handy. I also remember that towards the end I just couldn't take more soup so I would sneak some carrots in as a snack instead of soup (plus I didn't want to make a third pot of soup.) Good luck and feel free to ask questions. That's what this is all about. I ask questions all the time. Well, I just filled out my next 3 months p90x calendar. I took a little break and now I feel like I need to get back in the swing of things. However lately I have been working out at our rec center while my kids are at swimming lessons so I think on those days I will just stick with that and do the "X" the other days. Well at least until swimming is over. I must say I almost prefer the "X" over the rec but the change is nice and not having the kids to worry about is even better. All of my pudding is gone now. I may make more. It definitely hits the spot when you are craving chocolate. |

Lee, glad you made the decision to begin the journey. Like Misty said, headaches and all are very normal in the beginning as well as a rapid weight loss. Neither will continue. The headaches will dissappear and the weight loss will taper off to a more manageable amount shortly. This will not cause you to regain weight as fad diets do. As your body adjusts to the changes and your metabolism stabilizes, you will feel better all around. It's somewhat like stirring up the fish tank when you begin. Once it all settles, things become much cleaner! Take the tougher moments one breath at a time. You will make it through. I have been out of the loop for a short time. Many new happenings in my world over here. I am loving the process of buying our first home. Very exciting. It's wonderful to see God's work in our lives. I am also starting a more rigorous exercise routine. Several of the girls in my office are joining me in training for two events in 2011; the Susan G Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure and a Half Marathon. I have some very serious work to do in order to be ready. I am in the middle of the weight scale here for "Project: Prepare to Walk and Run". The heaviest gal is 320 and the lightest is 189. There are 4 of us total and we hope to coerce a few more to join us. It's nice to have another goal to work towards other than just the numbers on the scale and on the tag of my pants! I have been using the gym at church (finally) quite a bit and it's nice to have that place to work out. They charge us $100.00 per year for use of the Gym and Family Life Center where you can have birthday parties, reunions, and so forth. I would say that's a pretty sweet deal! Misty, I really want that pudding! What is the exact recipe? It sounds wonderful and since I am not really good at eating fish I need the omega 3 from the avocado. Take care. I have Red (one of my co-workers) up here buggin me so I have to run! |

Oh my gosh. I am so pooped. I just finished my workout for the day and I am so ready for bed. I feel great though. Isn't that funny that even if you don't want to workout, you feel awesome afterward. Even now that I am tired and ready for bed I still feel better now than I did before the workout. And what's even better is I won't feel bad for being lazy and not working out. It's addicting. I think I need to eat more though. I am eating snacks in between my meals but I think I am just overall not eating enough. Or maybe I just need more protein. Chelle- I will get you that recipe for the avocado pudding. Right now I don't feel like digging it out but it was so worth making. I think signing up for those 2 events is a great idea. If anything it gives you another goal to work towards. I also hope your work buddies stick with the workout program too and the deal at your church is unheard of so lucky you. I hope your house buying is exciting for you and that your worries are at a minimum. Take care. |

Hi, everyone! I got on here several times last week and lost my connection before sending my post. So trying again. Welcome, Lee! Yep, on the headaches - normal process of adjusting to the new way of eating and getting your system cleaned out. Hang in there. It's so worth it. Misty, great for getting thos X workouts planned out in advance! My hubby is on week 12 now of this rotation of the X. I got him a new workout program for his birthday which is this Sunday so maybe he'll start that next. It's called RevAbs and is one of Beachbody's newer workouts. Chelle, congrats for making plans for the walk and run! It's great to have friends join you in things like that too. And glad that the house buying is going well. Heather, glad things are going well with the pregnancy. And congrats on finding out it's a girl! As for me, doing ok for the moment. I went into early labor about two weeks ago and was on medication for that for about a week so I've had to take it easy lately. I'm fine as long as I don't do much of anything but if I'm up and about too much the labor starts again. Only about 7 1/2 weeks now till my due date and I'm hoping it will come a little early. Well, hope you're all doing great. Will talk to you later. |

Welcome, Cherri! I am sure you will find this to be a great program and lots of support from those on this post. We are all glad to give our opinions as well! I have been doing pretty good. It's tough right now because of the excitement of buying a new home. We think we have found the house we want and will be viewing it tomorrow. I have an issue with excitement and eating. The more excited I am, the more I want to eat! And not the good stuff, either. It makes me want salty foods like fries. I am running the race, though. I will survive this test and come out stronger in the end. I sure hope this house works out! The ups and downs would drive me more nuts! This will be our first time buying and it's a little earlier than I anticipated. We thought to not start the process until next month but this house came up and it's where we would like to live. I have put it in God's hands and know that He will provide the right home in the perfect timing. He always does! Hope you all are moving forward with your goals. The hard times come but the good times are so very good and such a great victory! I have been utilizing the gym at church more and I can certainly feel it in every muscle! It's a completely different workout from the DVD workouts and walking I have been doing. The machines really make me use some muscles that I don't get to in my jumping around at home! I'd like to tone more while losing so that I don't end up with too much loose skin. Any tips on that? I feel that going from 300 to my goal of 145ish may leave me with some excess if I don't do this just right. I have a mother\daughter pajama party at church tonight. They will have loads of junk food around and I have asked all my friends that will be attending to help me not be too tempted. My husband is packing foods for Ellie and I that are healthy so that we can still attend and enjoy without eating all the garbage. I sure wish they wouldn't encourage such bad eating habits at church all the time! I know it's hard as it is the Standard American Diet, but it is frustrating and I get some flack from people, even at church, that I am depriving my child. From what? I ask. Diabetes? Obesity? Periodontal diseases? And every other disease I can think of? I don't think she is deprived at all. She's in better shape than pretty much all of her friends, she doesn't get sick all the time like they tend to, and she has more energy. She says she likes that we keep her on a healthy diet as it will serve her well her whole life. She's been listening and she is such a smart kid! What a joy she is. She has always wanted to be a vet, but we had to tell her we don't have the money for Vet schooling. So, she is going to be a postal carrier and pay her own way through vet school! I think that's pretty smart of her. She can live at home if she wants to and we will help in any way we can. She will also apply for scholarships, of course. We will be volunteering at the Animal Wellness Center this spring and summer to get her feet wet. She will study vet curriculum in high school as well. The beauties of home-schooling! Take care and have a wonderful weekend! M |

Hello Everyone! Well I worked out a little too much the other day. I think I pulled a muscle in my shoulder area so I have had to take it easy the last few days. I have been trying to work my legs and abs but staying away from the arms. What a bummer! Chelle- I agree about churches etc having sweets everywhere. I just took my son for his 5 year check up and they offered him a sucker at the end of the visit. I wouldn't let him have one but I thought doctors were supposed to set the examples for healthy habits. AGHHHH!!!! Oh and I haven't forgotten to get you that pudding recipe. Susan- Take it easy girl. I will keep praying for you and the baby. I remember how those last few weeks are so hard on a woman's body. Have any of you ever heard of the Daniel Fast? It is a biblical fast. I have been researching it on the internet. I am Catholic and was thinking about doing it for Lent. It isn't quite a cleanse but I think it is cleansing in itself if that makes sense. I am also thinking that it will be spiritually beneficial and I am assuming it will aid in my weight loss. I am concerned about the protein aspect of it since I am working out. I have another 2 weeks to decide what I would like to do and I would like to try something different than the norm. Cherri- WELCOME!!!! Feel free to post and ask us questions. We share our ups and downs on this site. |
